Self-Taught Builder, Twenty Years Deep

I am a self-taught builder in Los Angeles. For twenty years I have been taking systems apart to understand how they work, and I build software end to end: I define the problem, design the system, build it, and keep it running.

I work with language models every day and have put nearly every major one to the test: Claude, GPT, Gemini, Llama, Qwen, Kimi, Gemma. I compare them by building, handing each the same real task from one of my projects and watching where it succeeds, where it breaks, and how differently they reason. I work primarily in Python. Watching a model handle work it was never explicitly built for is the part I find most interesting.

Before software I spent ten years in California cannabis operations, ending as COO, responsible for production, staffing, and regulatory compliance.

I am studying computer science now to formalize what I taught myself.

One person, start to finish. No team to wait on, no parts I outsource.

I obsess over the details most people skip, because that's where things break.

If it's not running, I'm not done.

Magnum Opus: Lodestar
Lodestar is the back office for a licensed cannabis dispensary. One system that pays vendors, keeps the books, separates 280E tax, tracks inventory and answers to state compliance. I designed it, built it, and keep it running.
Compliance
Per-license Metrc seed-to-sale sync, with a watchdog for destruction deadlines, on-hold packages and sync gaps. Three-way match across invoice, PO and what physically arrived, and vendor risk flags surfaced before anything is approved.
Compliance
Onboarding
License checked against the public registry, then the tenant is stood up with its own isolated encrypted books. POS and Metrc connect once, and sales, inventory and seed-to-sale packages sync without manual exports.
Onboarding
What it delivers
Month-end reconciliation stops being manual. 280E separation and a hash-chained ledger make tax season a download instead of a reconstruction, and aged-stock markdowns clear shelves before product expires.
What it delivers

Every piece below is mine: hand-drawn ink, no AI, no stock photos. I've got college coursework in drawing, design, and web design, but most of this I taught myself the same way I taught myself everything else. I designed and built this whole site, too.

No plan when I sit down, just a pen and a blank page. Some of these become logos or site art later. Most just stay sketchbook pages, and that's fine.

I execute precise revisions to architectural drawings in AutoCAD to city-planning spec, work directly with the principal architect interpreting design markups, and keep design files under version control across concurrent projects.

I ran on-site technical support that kept business-critical operations at 100% uptime, and rebuilt customer-service SOPs into workflows that improved transaction efficiency across retail locations.

I built and deployed the full digital infrastructure and custom web platform for an Ultra 4 race team and Compton performance shop. Automated backend pipelines, a secure Dropbox-API media system that routes trackside photos live, and race-prep tools for events like King of the Hammers.

Experience

A decade in LA cannabis.

About ten years across production, retail, and distribution. Million-unit runs, running the floor at flagship stores, and keeping it all compliant start to finish.

The Artist Tree

Retail

Worked the floor in entry-level retail and trained directly under a lineup of major cannabis brands.

MedMen

General Manager

Ran the day to day at a flagship store. Big teams, seven figures in sales every month, and a lot of time spent reading how staff and customers actually moved so the floor ran better.

Quickies

Production Manager

Ran manufacturing for one of the highest-volume pre-roll operations in LA. I handled the logistics and quality control, kept us fully compliant, and scaled production up.

STM Canna

Machine Tech

Knew their automated pre-roll machines inside and out. I could break them down, rebuild them, reverse-engineer the parts, and keep them maintained and running.

Space Flyt

Logistics Manager

Managed inventory and getting product out to stores for the top sellers, keeping what we made lined up with what stores needed, usually under pressure.

Web Platform & Digital Infrastructure

August 2025 – Present

Coastal Herb Co

COO

Came on as COO to help launch the brand in New Jersey, with California next on the list.

Trained under

Jeeter

Pre-rolls

Trained with the Jeeter team on their infused pre-roll line, how it is made and how to move it on a busy floor.

710 Labs

Concentrates

Trained on 710 Labs hash and flower, learning what actually separates top-shelf product from everything else.

Plug Play

Vapes

Trained on the Plug Play vape system, the hardware and the pods, and how to match it to what a customer is after.

STIIIZY

Vapes

Trained on STIIIZY's vape lineup and how to walk a customer through the whole range without overselling.

Dime

Vapes

Trained on Dime's vape and disposable range and how to sell it straight, no gimmicks.

Alien Labs

Flower

Trained on Alien Labs flower, the cultivars and what keeps people coming back for them.

Rosin Tech

Solventless

Trained on Rosin Tech solventless rosin, how it is pressed, graded, and why it earns the price it carries.

Green Mind Solutions

Product training

Trained directly with the Green Mind Solutions team on their product line and where it fits on the shelf.

Reach out anytime. I'm happy to answer anything first.

Julian Wolfe

Los Angeles, CA

What exactly do you build?

Everything from web platforms and software tools to video games, custom motorcycle builds, and robotics. If it involves code, hardware, or complex systems engineering, I build it.

When can you start?

Immediately.

What is your educational background?

I graduated from Alta Loma High School with a diploma and completed collegiate coursework at Azusa Pacific University and Long Beach City College, with a recent acceptance to Cal Poly Humboldt. I do not hold any formal degrees; my expertise is entirely execution-driven and self-taught.

Do you outsource any work?

No. I handle all development, technical optimization, and system design internally.

Are you available for work?

Yes, immediately, and I am not precious about how. Full time, contract, or a research program. I work every day and I am ready to start now.

Are you open to full time roles?

Available

Where are you based?

I am currently based in Los Angeles, California, but I am actively looking to relocate for the right long term opportunity. I handle both local and global projects.

How do I reach you?

Just reach out: call 310 490 2559 or email julian@w0lfe.lol and tell me what you need.
